The LanTex has been showing pictures on the north side of the courthouse square since May 19, 1927. Thirty cents for adults, a dime for the kids. Come see what’s playing this weekend.
1927–2027 One hundred years this coming May. See what we’re planning
1927
Opens May 19 with The Fourth Commandment. Thirty cents, standing room only.
1940s
School concerts, town halls, WWII bond drives. 367 seats and every one spoken for.
1951
Fire badly damages the house in August; the rebuild gives the LanTex its mid-century face, and it reopens in March 1952.
Now
Newer seats, ADA spaces, wider aisles, and volunteers running the show.
2027
One hundred years. Mark the calendar for May 19. We're planning a centennial worth driving in for.
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT
Park once. The whole square is a two-minute walk.
A picture at the LanTex is the middle of the evening, not the whole of it. Dinner before at one of the places around the courthouse, a drink after at Joe’s Bar, a look through LTX Mercantile while the marquee is still warming up.
Juice on the Corner mixes a themed drink for the big movie nights. There was one for Jaws, one for Back to the Future, and the next is in the works.
Friends of the LanTex
The building belongs to the City of Llano; the warmth is all volunteers. Friends of the LanTex are the businesses and neighbors behind it, and their names go up on the big screen before every show and movie.
